Queer Belonging Backpacking Adventure is a paid program from June 14th to June 30th. This program is for High School aged youth who identify as Queer, Trans, Black Indigenous and People of color. During the program, we will explore the themes of Queer belonging through community building, discussions, art, and outdoor adventures including backpacking, camping, and learning in nature. Participants will develop a deep sense of belonging within the affinity group and a connection to natural spaces. This program helps to create a safe space in which youth can connect on what it means to be QTBIPOC and learn how to advocate for more welcoming and inclusive spaces for all.

The Davis-Putter Scholarship Fund provides financial support for students who are active and emerging organizers in progressive movements for liberation, self-determination and social and economic justice in their communities. Each year, the Maisin Scholar Award provides 75 high school seniors in SFUSD with as much as $3000 annually  so they can pursue higher education and open doors to their dreams. The scholarship can be renewed at the same initial rate for a maximum of $12,000 and is available to scholars for up to six years.

Students attending a 4-year institution receive $4,500 per school year. Students attending a 2-year institution will receive up to $2,250 per school year until they transfer to a 4-year institution, at which time they will be eligible for the $4,500 award per school year. Kindergarten to College is both automatic and universal. When a student enters kindergarten in San Francisco Unified School District, K2C automatically opens a deposit-only savings account in the child’s name at Citibank with a starter deposit of $50 in each account. There is no paperwork to fill out, and the program does not use social security numbers. For some families, their account with K2C is their only formal bank account with a financial institution.

Balboa students are eligible to apply to this year’s Awesome Fund Grant. This link covers expectations and an overview of the grant. The Awesome Fund provides registered high school clubs with financial support for projects that help students enhance their community, keep students involved in school, and/or provide students with a more meaningful educational experience. Students can apply for a grant of $100 to $1,000.

If there is any interest in applying, students should start to consider what kind of project would positively impact their club the most and how much funding they’ll need to get it started.

The application closes 10/23/2023 and no late applications will be accepted.

MNHC offers sensitive, respectful and non-judgmental services that are FREE and CONFIDENTIAL for all young people of all genders from ages 12 to 21. At the Shotwell site there is a Teen Clinic area made just for youth. Bilingual services offered cover physical, mental, emotional, sexual and reproductive health. If you are a young person over the age of 12, you can register for services on your own.
